Return of the Brenda

This is the funniest thing I've seen in a while. I kept seeing commercials warning me that this show was impending, and then yesterday I was informed that the big premiere was finally here! Just the premise of this show was enough to set my DVR to record the entire series. Imagine – you are breaking up with someone, but instead of delivering the news yourself, you send Brenda Walsh in to do it for you! Ha ha ha! I just love this idea because she has this reputation for being such a horrible bitchy shrew, and now she’s going to be the heartless messenger who tells people they are SOL and they’re dumped, AND they’re on TV. Yes!

So how it works is that the dumper has an interview with Shannen to explain the sitch. Then the dumpee gets set up in some contrived situation where he/she is either made to look like a fool, made to confess wrongdoings, or made to stare his/her own relationship in the face. This all takes about 3 minutes. Then in storms Shannen Doherty to announce that she’s been watching all this and guess what – it’s OVER!

Naturally last night two of the guys who Shannen dumped hit on her. The first guy, who was a self-proclaimed “playa,” and had just admitted to having two girlfriends on camera, told Shannen post-dump that she is hot. She whirled around and said, “I am hot, but you would never have a chance with me in a million years!” Another guy told Shannen that he thinks they have a lot in common and Shannen goes, “We have nothing in common! No we don’t!” Ha ha ha – you don’t mess with Dylan’s girlfriend.

I like that she has no mercy for the guys who try to save face by acting like they don’t care that they are being dumped on TV by Brenda Walsh. (Like the two guys I just mentioned.) She asks them how it feels to be dumped and comments on what jerks they are. In another vignette, a guy dumped a girl for being too controlling and when Shannen came out and gave her the news, the girl started to cry. Shannen goes, “Just think of all the guys who are watching right now and are thinking how hot you are!” Too funny. Since the girl was contrite, Brenda tried to make her feel better. Shannen also told her that she understood because she used to be the same way with her ex-husband. Ha!

Anyway, this is pretty vapid, but last night’s back-to-back episodes were highly amusing and I intend to continue watching until it’s no longer fun. I’ll also keep Shannen in mind for any pesky relationship issues I don’t want to handle myself.

Ah - Remember when she pulled her pants up this high?

Nice - you've piqued my interest. I thought the premise of the show was that Shannon keeps breaking up with all of HER boyfriends, like this is set over a period of a couple of years. I have no idea why that would be the conclusion I come to, as that sounds terribly ridiculous.

I like the actual premise better.

I'm so intrigued, I am going to set MY season pass on this show.

Brenda Walsh...ha ha ha, too funny!

Where's Dylan from this picture??

And who is the little child in the green and navy stripped shirt feeling up Kelly?

You're right - where IS Dylan??? That little boy is the one who wasn't adding to the storylines, so he "accidentally" shot himself in season 1. He was David Silver's sidekick.

OMG! I REMEMBER!!!! Holy crap. They couldn't just let him move out of state? I guess that's less realistic (moving away from 90210) than getting shot accidentally.

AND there would be no lesson in him moving out of state. We teenagers had to learn to stop taking our dads' guns out of their writing desks and twirling them like gun slingers from the Wild West. Sheesh!

Ok, so I saw the two episodes last night. Hmmm. I don't know. The production value and writing on the show is seriously lacking. And it's not what I thought it would be. Although I did find it appealing.

I think what appealed to me the most was that Shannon is actually kinda cool and she is sexy, and the best part about her is that she leans towards the women in favor. I think that's kinda cool, since it's the woman who gets screwed pretty much in every relationship (statements like that are why my identity shall remain anonymous). But I feel it's true - I mean men feel only with the left side of their brain and women with their whole brain as I was once educated. So they are only about half as involved emotionally in all of it.

That guy that was dating that blonde, who asked Shannen if she was ovulating, looked like he was about to cry when he was listening to his future x-gf's video message. And then he got all macho and non-chalant, and declared that he didn't think they were right for each other either. OK! Nice back paddling. Can't he just admit that this sucks (because breaking-up does) and feel remorseful for it not working out? No, he has to let Shannon know that he's ready for the next. Very classy.

I don't think this show will do much for my perception of men.
